New high blood pressure monitors from Omron
High blood pressure monitors for home use, made by Omron Healthcare, Inc. are one of the trusted brands on the market. The company recently announced a new product line designed to simplify home blood pressure monitoring for its users. "High blood pressure often shows no symptoms which is why it is important to alert consumers to monitor their blood pressure at home between doctor's visits," said Jeff Ray, a senior product manager at Omron Healthcare. "We have redesigned our entire product line and packaging, making it easier for consumers to understand which product is best for them."
According to the American Heart Association, hypertension affects over 74 million people in the United States.
Monitoring blood pressure at home is one of the most important things people can do to reduce their risk of complications of high blood pressure such as stroke or a heart attack.
Research has shown that more than 50 percent of people with high blood pressure who monitor their pressure at home show an improvement in medication compliance and are quicker to take action.
Omron explains that its new line caters better to specific personal needs, Called the Series™ line, Omron has produced four different categories of product (3, 5, 7 and 10) for the upper arm and wrist blood pressure monitors in the line, which indicate the benefits the product will provide.
The most sophisticated of the devices include innovative technology such as: Calibration Check (Dual sensors which automatically double check each blood pressure reading), Cuff Wrap Guide (A visual indicator confirms the cuff has been wrapped correctly on your arm. The blood pressure monitor will not continue with a reading until the cuff is wrapped securely). Heart Guide Technology which is used on the Omron wrist blood pressure monitors to ensure accuracy by utilizing a positioning sensor that automatically confirms the cuff is level with the user's heart.
Home high blood pressure monitors will continue to become more reliable and sophisticated. Research has repeatedly shown the unequivocal value of home blood pressure monitoring - not just in complementing doctor’s office readings, but in improving blood pressure control and thus reducing cardiovascular risk. (The Finn Home study is one example, published in 'Hypertension' the Journal of the American Heart Association - click here to read it).
This is no doubt in part because the use of the home monitor encourages people to take more responsibility for their pressure and pay closer attention to their lifestyle and / or medication.
